Academic Policy
ACADEMICS
Edge is very proud to not only be an elite athletic organization that focuses on excellence on the playing field but also focuses on excellence in the classroom. The purpose of the program is to help these athlete's gain scholarships to collegiate institutions in the NCAA - this means our players must not just be elite ATHLETES but in acutality elite STUDENT ATHLETES. In order to drive this home and ensure there is a certain standard of academic expectations we have instituted an Edge Academic Policy that guides the academic portion of our program.
BASIC STANDARDS
Academic Requirements To Play:
75% - TO PLAY
70% - 74.9% - ACADEMIC PROBATION. CAN PLAY WITH ACADEMIC PLAN
<70% - ACADEMIC PLAN REQUIRED. ONCE OVER 70% THE PLAYER CAN PLAY
*We understand the many complexities to an individual student's academic life and we do our best to address issues by individual player but these are the general main guidelines dictating our program
If a player is placed on probation an official Academic Plan is require. Below is the Edge Policy on Academic Plans:
ACADEMIC PLAN
For any student / athlete who is placed on academic probation we need to see two things – COMMITMENT & IMPROVEMENT
First thing we require is FEEDBACK:
Providing us with personal feedback will allow the player to better understand their situation. They need to state why they think their marks are below the standard, what they plan to do to improve their marks and how they will report to us.
REPORTING & MEASURING:
Report cards will need to be handed in regularly. Ability to play in the summer will be dependent upon the June report. The fall Edge events will require other means of information. Some teachers may give an interim report, individual test results are to be tracked and reported, and guidance councilors will be contacted. Once school gets rolling, a weekly or bi-weekly report on the player's progress will be required.
DO MORE:
Students need to set up set study hours, get extra help in class (at breaks/lunch), and/or get extra out of school tutoring. Basically, the player is expected to do whatever is needed to see improvement. A parent meeting with teachers explaining that the player wants to do whatever is necessary to do to improve is a great way to start.
The goal of Edge is not to limit a boy’s ability to play for his Edge team, but to help them develop the proper Academic habits to succeed in school. Once a basic academic plan is sent to us, we will review it and adjust if necessary.
As long as this plan is developed and followed and improvement is seen, the student/ athlete will continue playing with his Edge team.
